Visiting the Neighbors

June 2004

Every once in a while we like to go out for a drive and, maybe, meet someone new. It was a nice day, so we drove on over to Smith's Country Cheese store on Otter River Road in Winchendon and stopped in to chat with Carol. The Smith's created a cheese business to make use of the milk from their herd of 200 in an era of falling milk prices. The business has grown to include a nice gift shop and a set of observation windows through which one can see cheese being made and aged. Carol gave us a little tour of the cheddar and gouda.  Here's what it looks like. Imagine what it would taste like on some Petersham Bread Company bread - toasted - of course.

Into the packages. Making the rounds.
